We can program any number of signatures for the software; however, only one can be used at a time on a particular printer.

If another signature is to be used, a configuration change is required and then that is the signature that will print all the time - the credit union is able to make that configuration change on site.

The signatures cannot be assigned to automatically change based on the dollar amount of the check. That would require special programming at an additional cost.

Frequently asked questions:

  •   What we need to proceed with an order?
  • 1. Number of printers that are to print the laser checks

    2. A voided sample of an existing check for MICR information

    3. The starting number for the laser checks

    4. A copy of the signature to be digitized

    5. Advise if credit union wants to set signature limits.

  •   Why Switch To Laser From Dot Matrix?
  • Dot Matrix printers are becoming obsolete. Maintenance and repair are becoming more and more difficult as parts are not readily available as they used to be.

Imaging Documents - Laser printout produces a far superior scanned image than Dot Matrix.

Counter Space – if you're using the wide carriage dot matrix printers then you will free up counter space when you move to laser printers, in fact you may already have laser printers in-house that can be utilized for check printing. You may just have to add another tray.

Paper Stock - laser check stock runs anywhere from 10% to 30% less than dot matrix check stock. With Dot matrix check stock you're usually using a 2 part carbonless stock that can sometimes be hard to read on the original and even more difficult on the 2nd copy. With laser check stock you're printing on 1 piece of paper with no carbon images.

Enhancing image with members - when you upgrade to laser check printing you show your members that the credit union is keeping up with technology. If you don't upgrade, new members, prospective members (especially younger ones) may view the credit union as "outdated" just because you're using dot matrix printing.

  •   Other Options:
  • A specific signature can be assigned to a specific printer in a specific department, and another signature in a different department. That is a way that the credit union can specify who signs what checks.

We have one other option – that is to not print a signature at a specified dollar amount, thereby requiring a physical signature.

MICR – Our software can print your micr line

Logo – For an additional charge of $200 our software can print your logo/address/phone, etc.

  •   Laser Check Software Questions:
  • What does your Annual Maintenance Agreement cover? Unlimited Phone and/or E-mail Support for 12 Months

Can we print Money Orders through your software? Yes

If we want to “demo” the software, what do you need from us? We need a “CU ID” to generate a printer license – this usually a “test” account on your system instead of the live account.

What kind of Laser Printer or Brand do you recommend? The only requirement is that it be “Postscript” compatible. Some popular choices lately (06/11) are the HP 2420 and the HP P3015

What kind of paper is required with this software? Any check stock whether blank or pre-printed with your logo must have a background security pattern printed to help prevent fraud.

Do we have to use pre-printed check stock? No – our software can print your logo, routing fraction, signature and micr line

Do we have to use special toner for the micr line? Yes – Checks are still processed using Magnetic Inc Character Recognition (MICR). Even though the toner is more expensive the paper stock is less expensive than the pre-printed so it may be a wash. We can conduct a detailed analysis if you ask us too.

What about security for Laser Check Stock? Whether you have blank or pre-printed check stock you have to have appropriate security measures both during the day during normal business hours and when you’re closed. During the day you could opt to add a “locking” tray to your laser printer and at night the stock can be stored in the vault. We can supply references for the lockable security trays.
